Winners Spotlight: Rustica Antipasto

Rustica Antipasto is a family-run business in the Yarra Valley bringing authentic Italian antipasto to Australian tables.

Founded just two years ago by mother-and-son duo Connie and Ernesto Lando, the business began around the family table, with Connie sharing her homemade antipasto with friends and family. Ernesto recalls, “Mum was always giving her products away. I said, ‘Wait a minute—you can’t find these products anywhere. Let’s try making them and selling them.’ And we haven’t looked back since.”

Rustica Antipasto specialises in traditional Italian antipasto products, made with recipes passed down through generations. Their spicy green marinated tomatoes are unique in Australia, made the traditional Italian way with a touch of spice. The business operates with a simple philosophy: traditional Italian products made with love from our family to yours.

At the 2025 Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards, Rustica Antipasto was awarded Bronze in the Pickled Products category for their spicy green marinated tomatoes.

Ernesto says, “Winning this award brings so much enjoyment and satisfaction. Something our family has been making for generations is now recognised on a large scale.”

The recognition has already had an impact, with customers responding enthusiastically at shows and markets whenever they hear the products have won a Melbourne Royal medal.

Ernesto adds, “I entered the awards to prove to my mum that our product is worthy. This medal shows that it absolutely is.”

Looking ahead, the family hopes to expand their product range and eventually operate full-time. Rustica Antipasto continues to share their passion for Italian food and family tradition with every jar.
