The 2024 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards presentation luncheon was held earlier this month in the Victoria Pavilion at Melbourne Showgrounds with more than 300 guests in attendance. The Melbourne Royal trophy that Australian winemakers want to win is the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for Best Young Red Wine won this year by Four Winds Vineyard for their 2023 Shiraz. This is the first time Four Winds Vineyard has won this prestigious trophy, and the first time this trophy has been awarded to a wine produced from a Canberra District vineyard.

The Melbourne Royal Board, management and staff were saddened to learn of the passing of Kaye Lynn and Ian Shawcross. Kaye had a longtime involvement with Melbourne Royal beginning when he was a child attending the Melbourne Royal Show with his parents and competing in the Horses in Action competition. Ian also had a long association with Melbourne Royal, most notably his time as a member of the Melbourne Royal Fleece Committee for over three decades. Our deepest condolences to both Ian and Kaye’s family and friends.
